What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a site can store on your device, or similar storage such as localStorage. They remember a choice, a session, or a measurement. They are not a kernel in our teaching sense; they are a browser mechanism. This page covers both cookies and localStorage because our consent flag uses the latter.
Types we use
Essential. The consent flag itself. Without it we would ask you again on every visit. Rejecting analytics does not remove this flag; it records the rejection.
Analytics (optional). Only if you press Accept. These help us see which essays are read. They are not required to open a syllabus, send a form, or read legal pages. Rejecting them does not lock any room, fee table, or form.
Cookies table
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
| featurekernelbase_cookie_consent | Stores whether you accepted or rejected optional analytics. Essential for remembering that choice. | Until you clear site data (treated as 12 months of relevance, after which we may ask again if the flag is gone) | Featurekernelbase (first party, localStorage) |
| fk_ledger_analytics | Optional page-view note so we know which journal essays are opened. Set only after Accept. | 6 months | Featurekernelbase |
| fonts.gstatic.com / Google Fonts cache | Delivers Cormorant Garamond and Outfit. The font request may set third-party technical cookies according to Google’s policies. | Determined by Google | Google Fonts (third party) |
| images.unsplash.com | Photographs on course cards, heroes, and journal covers. The image host may log requests. | Determined by Unsplash | Unsplash (third party) |
How to manage or disable cookies
Use Accept or Reject on the banner. To change a decision later, clear site data for featurekernelbase.digital in your browser, then reload; the banner will return. You can also block cookies for this domain in browser settings, or use a tracking-protection mode. Clearing localStorage removes the consent flag.
Third-party cookies
We do not run advertising networks. Fonts and images are requested from public hosts. Those hosts may process technical data under their own notices. We do not control their cookies. If you block third-party content, pages still read; photographs and webfonts may fall back to system fonts and empty frames.
Impact of disabling
Rejecting optional analytics does not hide fees, syllabi, or the enquiry form. Blocking all storage may make the banner reappear every visit, which is inconvenient but not a lock-out. Blocking third-party images makes the studio look plainer. Teaching content remains in HTML.
Personal data more generally is described in Privacy.
